Nara: Tōdai-ji & the Deer
45 min on the Kintetsu line. The Great Buddha hall is one of the largest wooden buildings on earth, and the park deer bow for crackers (then mug you). Doable in half a day; add Kasuga Taisha's lantern paths if staying longer.
