Tidewater Almanac
A 320-page annual set in two faces and one measure — the grid does the work the photography refuses to.
The Almanac collects a year of the press's coastal reporting into one volume, and the brief was blunt: the photography arrives late, uneven, and uncropped, so the typography has to hold the book together without it.
We set the whole volume on a single 66-character measure. Essays run in a quiet text face; data pages switch to a condensed sans and let the tables breathe with hairline rules only. Chapter openers are typographic — tide tables set enormous, as found — which gave the book a face even in chapters where no photograph earned the spread.
The pleasure of an annual is that the system gets to prove itself twice: the 2026 edition reused the 2025 grid without a single new master page.
